Fifty Shades of Grey
In Užice you will find few buildings and monuments that belongs to this strange communist architecture style called brutalist architecture . Hotel Zlatibor “Sivonja” get this nick name from local people who were always scarred by his grey color and concrete concept.
Another monument that is comming from that era is Kadinjača. These brutalist architecture structures were commissioned by ex Yugoslavian president Josip Broz Tito in the 1960s and 1970s to commemorate sites where WWII battles took place like Tjentište, Kozara and Kadinjača. They were designed by different sculptors and architects , conveying powerful visual impact to show the confidence and strength of the Socialist Republic. In the 1980s, these monuments attracted millions of visitors per year, especially young pioneers and working class for their patriotic education. After the Republic fell apart in 1990s, they were completely abandoned, and their symbolic meanings were lost, until now days when lot of people are coming here to visit them as a tourists.
