Kadinjača Ponikve Military Airport Rujno Monastery Vrutci Lake Šargan Eight Mokra Gora Jatarice Drvengrad

Tour Description:

 

The tour starts at Kadinjača monumental complex dedicated to the fallen warriors in WW2. Monument is located on the top of the hill between Uzice and Bajina Bašta with beautiful view on surrounding mountains. From Kadinjača the tour continues to Ponikve military airport that has been bombed in 1999 NATO bombing. You will be able to see how the hangars for military airplanes look like after bombs dropped on them. After the airport and a ride through beautiful scenery of Western Serbia. the tour stops at Rujno Monastery. In this monastery with amazing surroundings and view on the lake, was printed first Serbian book 1536 – 1537. Next stop is at Lake Vrutci and walk over 77 meters high dam. The following destination Šargan Vitasi train station from where famous engenieering solution “Šargan Eight“ starts. In the time when it was build 1925 this was proclaimed as and unique and almost geious solution to cross over Šargan mountain in such a short distance. Optional is train ride until Mokra Gora train station, takes around hour and half with 5 – 10 minutes stops on train stations in order to make photos. From Mokra Gora train station the tour continues towards Jatarice open air museum of steam machines used mostly for field works and road building, there we will visit Saint Jovan Vhurch and mineral water spring called „White Water“. Final stop on this tour is the visit to Drvengrad ethno village and home of famous Serbian director Emir Kusturica.
